Lauretta grew up on a farm just south of Jackson, Tennessee, a self-described "country girl." "My family was poor; we burned wood for heat and had an outhouse."

But the living conditions were not
all that troubled Lauretta. "I came
from a seriously broken family. I got married at 19 to get away. Being young and inexperienced, I didn't know any better."
